I have a nice neighbor that put out a wheelbarrow by the sidewalk last week filled with free pears. I got a grocery bag of them. I have been trying to figure out some good recipes that use pears. I came across this one and it is so good!!! The original recipe called for a cube of butter - I only used 1/2.
Just a warning --- if you eat one of the pears that you have coated in sugar -- you won't want to stop -- It was just like CANDY!!!
Ingredients:
- 2 to 2 1/2 cups sliced fresh pears
- 2 cups sugar, divided
- 2 ounces butter
- 3/4 cup flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
Preparation:
Mix pears with 1 cup sugar and let stand. Put butter in 2-quart casserole and place in 325° oven until melted. Combine all dry ingredients, including the remaining 1 cup of sugar. Mix well. Whisk together the milk and egg; slowly combine with dry ingredients to make a batter. Pour over melted butter. Do not stir. Spoon pears over the batter. Do not stir. Bake at 325° for 50 to 60 minutes, or until nicely browned and pears are tender.Serve hot or cold with ice cream or whipped cream.

This sounds AMAZING! Definitely going on next weeks To Make list :)
Tried this recipe and it was FAR FAR FAR beyond what I expected! DELICIOUS!!! I'll admit, I didn't have baking powder at the time but it still turned out great without it! Thanks for sharing!
This was a huge hit at my house. To say we la-la-la-loved it would be an understatement! We had French Vanilla ice cream with it. Mmmmm soooo goooood.....
I made this tonight and it was a hit - even The Man who does not have a sweet tooth liked it.
I accidentally left out the 2nd cup of sugar though! When it called to put the remaining dry ingredients in, I forgot it. It was still really good and perfectly sweet without the extra sugar and I also only used the 1/2 cube of butter.
Maybe next time, instead of the second full cup of white sugar, I'll try it with 1/2 cup of brown sugar...
Yummo!! I am going to try this one soon!!!!
Way too sweet -- Just do one cup of sugar and you'll save yourself some calories and taste the pears more. Good recipe.
